Moss Landing is located at the eastern mid-point of Monterey Bay. There is a small yacht harbor here. Moss Landing is also home to world-class research institute, MBARI (Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute, which is only loosely affiliated with the world-famous aquarium 20 miles south in Monterey). In addition, Elkhorn Slough is located here; it is one of the best marine birding locations on the west coast. Otters, seals, brown pelicans, egrets and herons are all commonplace.
